Embedded Fonts – Carry fonts in Word document

One of the new feature in office line of products that came new in office 2007 is the option to include the source fonts into the save file.

This option is present from this series only.

This option will allow the user to carry the document along with the source fonts that he used in his document.

This will help the user to not loose formatting of his text on any other machine which does not have these fonts.

This comes really handy and one more major care taken by Microsoft in here is that the fonts that are used in the document are not going to be installed in the system where it is used but the fonts can be changed their.

This will help in the security of the fonts that are bought separately.

The only disadvantage of using this option is that, the size of the file is increased vastly.

On my test on a small file of 74kb which used to fonts, when converted into file including font files, it came around 1.8mb.

Process to be followed to activate this feature for a file:

  1. At the time you are saving the document do the following
  2. Go to File
  3. Go to Word Options.
  4. In the Pop up dialog, go to Save tab on the left hand menu.
  5. check the ‘Embedded Fonts’ choice box to yes.
  6. And the save the document.

The verification is simple, just go back and see the size of the a file or even just open the document and go back the entire process and to verify weather the option is marked as checked.
